Dubuque's home for competitive bass fishingThe bass angler's source for quality tournament and networking opportunities in the Dubuque area

Our Junior Dubuque Bass club was started as part of our Dubuque Bass Club mission: Grow our bass fishing community. By showing the younger generation the ropes and giving them opportunities to get on the water, we are able to share the sport we love.

Our youth season is May through August. The tournaments are on Tuesday nights, along with one weekend tournament per year. We also have monthly meetings where anglers get to learn something new about bass fishing.

Youth anglers are paired with someone that is a similar age. If a parent, relative or friend is not able to take your angler out on the water, we have some wonderful volunteers from our adult club. They are experienced boaters and anglers volunteering their time to help kids experience a sport they love!

Anglers will need to bring their own bass fishing rod and reel. This would typically be a baitcaster or spinning reel and a medium action or medium heavy action rod with at least 10lb line. Anglers bring their own tackle, although many volunteers will share lures that are producing. They will need their own life jacket.

There is not a set age limit. Anglers need to be able to cast lures, land their own fish, and release their catch independently before they should try a tournament. Some anglers can do this when they are 10, most are usually 12 when they start. If you are taking your own child, the threshold for independence is at your discretion.

Cost:
Week night tournaments: $20 per angler
Meetings: Free
Weekend tournament: $50 per team, payout in prizes

No membership fees - thanks to our great sponsors!

Tournaments start at 5:30, but anglers should report at 5:10 to get the boat loaded and get on the water, ready for takeoff. The weigh-in time will vary slightly based on what time the sun sets.

Meetings start at 6:30. Our first meeting of 2026 is at O’Leary’s Lake (so the kids can fish from shore). All other meetings will be at Midtown Marina in East Dubuque.

How does my child get involved?
Join us at a meeting and learn about the club!

Do we need to have our own boat?
No, anglers can be paired with one of our volunteer boaters. However, we only have so many spots available for anglers without a boat. If you have a boat or can have a friend or relative take them out, that is a huge help. Anglers who don’t get a spot in a tournament are guaranteed to fish the next tournament.

Can I go along?
Unfortunately there is not room for extra adults to go along
